It is the doors and windows that are the gateways for any kind of energy be it positive or the negative ones. So, you need to be very much careful while building this portion of the home because it is when you will choose to summon, positive or negative energy in your home.

The windows and the doors should be built with utmost care in order to bring in that tang of peace, prosperity, happiness and joy in one's life. - Vastu suggests that the number of doors and windows in the home should be in even number like 2, 4, 6, 8 or 10. Also, one should take care of the fact that they are in the multiples of 8.
- According to Vastu, the entrance door of the building should not be built such that there is any obstruction like trees, plants, poles or staircases.
- The main door should not be directly facing any the temple at your home because that is not considered auspicious as per the principles of Vastu.
- There should not be any picture of God/Goddess hung in the backside of your door as that is believed to bring in negative energy in the home.
- The decoration of the doors should be done by the depictions of Laxmi, Ganesha or Swastika.
- Vastu principles tell us that the doors and the windows should be built in front of each other. This way both positive and the negative cycles will be completed and there will be adequate floe of energy. Also, it will allow cross-ventilation and the proper entrance for light from one room to the other.
- It is best to make use of teak as a material for building the doors and windows of your home as that are considered as the best materials for that matter.
- The windows built in the North side of the walls should b more inclined towards Northeast and should also be made wide and long. This will help enough of morning light enter through the home.
- Also, the windows built on the eastern side of the walls should be built such that it is inclined towards Northeast. These windows should be adequately wide and long allowing better entrance of morning light through.
- One should make sure that the entrance doors of two apartments are not opening towards each other as that is considered extremely inauspicious.
- It is not a great idea to build a window in the Southwest direction of the home because it is believed that the most harmful ultraviolent rays of Sun travel into this direction. So it is advisable to have least opening in this direction of the home.
- One should do the placement of doors and windows in such a way that there is proper flow of air should be there in a consistent way and at all points in adequate amount. There should be regular flow of air.
- The scientific reason behind this is that if there will not be adequate flow of air and there will be any accumulation of water in the home without the flow of air there are great chances that harmful germs and bacteria will start growing.
- Make sure that all the windows and doors are of similar shape and the doors and windows should be rectangular in shape.
- Doors should not be built in the centre of the wall and should be away from the centre.
- Doors and windows your home should not make noise while opening or closing because it is believed to be a cause for germination of quarrels in home.
- You should avoid making automatic doors in your home as that can be a cause for the deteriorating health of the children.
Any damage in doors and windows should be repaired in nick of the time because it is considered inauspicious according to Vastu.
