Meaning of 'OM'
- "OM" in the Hindu mythology is considered as the most pious one and is considered as a word that directly connects us to God. It is said in many scriptures that OM is the ancient vibration that has given rise to the entire Universe. And, every other pious vibration is included in the vibration of OM. Also, it is considered that it is the sound of "OM" that has given rise to all languages in the Universe. Pronouncing the word "OM" repetitively gives rise to a special kind of positive vibration that helps in making us emotionally and mentally stable and in helps in overcoming all the obstacles of life.
- "OM" is believed to have risen from four letters as illustrated in Sanskrit as A, U, M and the last is a kind of symbol that represents resonance. And, this goes to the fact that the symbol "OM" is inclusive of four aspects.
- A – This is the sound that comes directly from the belly and is created in the open threat which comes out finally from the open mouth.
- U – This sound within OM is formed in the middle part of the mouth. In this case, mouth is not as wide open as that in case of A.
- M – While pronouncing this within OM, the mouth closes.
- Resonance sound – While the sound of final M rises to the nasal passage, the fourth aspect of the mouth spreads in the air.
- It has been written in scriptures and other holy books that ‘A’ in OM is the representation of the waking state, ‘U’ the dream state, ‘M’ the deep sleep without dreams and the last resonance sound is the representation of the state of being in the meditating state.
- OM in essence is the absolute representation of Brahma who is considered as the absolute God of Hinduism and who is omnipresent, omnipotent and is source of entire energy of the Universe. Om is the symbol created to understand the existence of Brahma.

The silence captures the sound of OM and mind becomes so occupied that there isn’t any other scope for any other thought. And, that is what helps the mind and the intellect to transcend from the ordinary individual self to the realization of the Infinite self.
